ZAHIED T. MOHAMMED
This painting was inspired by my experiences with hypocritical people. They display their beauty while you are present yet in your absence, they expose their dark side.
The concept behind this painting was very simple. Even during the darkest circumstances, we can still be hopeful. No matter what we are faced with, there's always a silver lining behind the darkness. Good will always surface if you choose to believe that you can overcome darkness.
This painting represents the color variation of the human race. The canvas became my avenue to express how we should all see each other. Regardless of our skin color, religion, gender or sexual orientation, we are all created from the same energy and by the same creator.
The woman in the beautiful gown is trapped and repeatedly abused by her partner. The harsh words surrounding her represent how she is treated. On her body I illustrate how she feels about the abuse. I think that it's important for us not to judge one another and to be open-minded - Outward appearances do not define the individual.
I believe that in life we all have someone who is constantly watching over us. They will do anything to protect and comfort us, regardless of the opinion of others.
My partner and I faced many challenges as we struggled against resistance and acceptance of our love. Black signifies the negative energy that continuously follows us at every turn. I believe it is our obligation to live a happy and peaceful life without retribution.
This painting is based on the connection between a mother and child. I believe that no matter what the circumstances are, even in death a mother and a child will always be connected.
Depiction of a self-centered, dreadfully arrogant woman. She was perpetually tangled in a web of lies, betrayal and mired in darkness.
